Visual + Reflective Synthesis:
Design thinking meets EdTech
Explore artifacts that focus on diversity and inclusion, emerging technologies and knowledge exchange
Hi. My name is Aiann.
I’m a designer with a passion for making things accessible.
Watch my short intro:
Since graduating from the York/Sheridan Joint Program in Design (B.Des. ’11), I’ve provided in-house expertise to healthcare organizations and non-profits. I have a Graduate Certificate in Accessible Media Production (’18) from Mohawk College and have been a past presenter at the Annual Accessibility Conference held at the University of Guelph.
Currently, I work at the Ministry of Health in Ontario within the digital communications team. I recently completed a Masters in Educational Technology (M.ET) with the University of British Columbia. I have an interest in merging inclusive and learner-centered design practices.

Audience
The ePortfolio (eP) is designed for industry professionals, colleagues and stakeholders, with the purpose of being a visual and reflective synthesis of my learning and work completed towards a Master of Educational Technology (MET) degree.
Purpose
The eP will highlight my enhanced technical skills and learning design competencies gained through artifacts that focus on diversity and inclusion, emerging technologies and knowledge exchange. In addition to being a virtual showcase, the eP will be a space for self-reflection, to connect my experiences in a graduate program to my personal and professional growth.
Goals
Goal #1
To gain a solid understanding of adult learning theories and apply evidence-informed approaches to selecting and managing technology for learning in my practice as a digital communications professional.
Goal #2
To engage in reflective practice and develop self-awareness of strengths and areas of improvement to support my interests in workforce training in healthcare.
Goal #3
To apply my digital accessibility expertise to design inclusive learning applications and user experiences that promote engagement and participation.
Goal #4
To develop critical thinking skills to evaluate current and emerging technologies using relevant research, models and frameworks.
As a digital communications professional managing website infrastructure and content for a pediatric rehabilitation hospital, I am interested in integrating instructional design practices into my existing work to support training, education and outreach initiatives.
Objectives for MET
With my professional background and a MET degree, I can plan, produce and manage technology-enabled learning solutions that align with best practices and pedagogy.
Start with the framework
Design thinking means taking a human-centric approach to solving problems.
